The Uganda Bridge Federation (UBF) is thrilled to announce that Uganda has been officially welcomed as the newest affiliated member of the World Bridge Federation (WBF). The momentous announcement was made on June 16th, 2025, marking a historic milestone for the bridge community in Uganda.
In its official statement, the World Bridge Federation expressed, “We are pleased to warmly welcome Uganda as the newest member of the World Bridge Federation. This is a significant step forward in our efforts to expand and strengthen the global bridge community. Congratulations to Uganda on this important achievement!”
We, at the Uganda Bridge Federation, extend our heartfelt gratitude to the World Bridge Federation for this recognition and warmly appreciate the confidence placed in us. This affiliation is not just a badge of honor, but a springboard for the continued growth and elevation of Bridge as a competitive mind sport within Uganda and beyond.

Uganda’s bridge history traces its roots back to the early 1960s, notably around 1964, when the game found a home among members of the white community in Kampala, Entebbe, and Jinja. Bridge particularly thrived within the Gujarati community at the Jinja Sailing Club, where it was celebrated for its intellectual rigor and social prestige. Over the decades, Bridge evolved into an exclusive game embraced by a select few within Uganda’s high society, predominantly in the capital.
However, it was not until early 2022 that a transformative vision was realized with the formal initiation of the Uganda Bridge Federation. This marked the dawn of deliberate bridge development and sensitization strategies across the country. With targeted efforts, Bridge was repositioned from an elite pastime to a structured competitive sport accessible to wider communities. Today, Uganda proudly fosters bridge talent in universities, secondary schools, and even primary institutions, embedding the game deeply into educational and social development.

This affiliation with the WBF comes at a pivotal time, reinforcing Uganda’s dedication to nurturing a vibrant and inclusive bridge culture. As we embark on this exciting chapter, Uganda is confident that its affiliation will not only bolster the growth of Bridge within the nation but will also contribute significantly to the development of Bridge across Africa and the global community.
